Good ideas for getting the word out about my “home based cleaning business?”?

I’ve started my own cleaning service and I’m having a hard time getting the word out about it. I’ve printed up tons of flyers and have walked around my neighborhood putting them on doors (since its illegal to put anything in mailboxes), and I’m still not getting calls. Any quick, inexpensive ideas?

Simply post it in public free spaces…. Make a flyer.. If you have Microsoft go to Microsoft.com and under “templates” there’s tons of free downloads pick one and customize it to your needs… Then print/make copies and post… Library, grocery stores, retirement centers, rec. centers. Board of Education… Local newspapers.. They may charge a small fee but, they reach many people… There’s also craigslist.. It’s free and most people know about it.. Just be careful as with anything involving strangers ! Let friends/family know. Especially, with increased cleaning and the holidays coming up offer to help your friends and family for a small “fee” maybe do a couple rooms to help them with the holiday entertaining.. Check the local schools PTA moms/dads. Local churches/community centers… Those are all good places to start… Good luck

Is is ok to sell stuff at your work?

I work with a bunch of women and they’re always trying to get me to buy makeup, candles, jewelry, tupperware, knives, candy, cookie dough, etc. at work. I always try to buy from their kids fundraisers b/c I feel like it’s a good cause, but there is a new invitation in my mailbox everyday, especially now that it’s the holidays. The worse part is that some of them turn their noses up at me now b/c I don’t come to their parties after work or on the weekends.

no, it is not appropriate to run a “home based business” from your place of work…..if these ladies were to mention on their lunch hour that they were part time makeup salesman or whatever that would be one thing (and even then, if it comes up in a conversation fine-but then they should drop it….and take a cue from you whether your interested or not)….but to bombard your mailbox…i don’t know, but i think if i were the boss i would be kinda irritated that all my employees were wasting time on the clock looking at catalogs….
….and as for kids fundraisers….personally i don’t think you should buy stuff for a school fundraiser unless the child himself asks you…..i think it is so ridiculous the way parents take their kids fundraisers to work….the kid is suppposed to be doing it!!

Where can I find legitimate Home Based Businesses that aren’t going to break me to start?

Quick background so you understand my question. I’m totally disabled – physically – though mentally I believe in my abilities enough to try and/or start a Home Based Business to help my wife who works two jobs (and I feel so bad about it) to keep us a float, so to speak, but I don’t want to simply sit around and do nothing! I want to help provide “some” financial assistance so the whole burden is not on my wife’s shoulders. If there are legitimate and reasonalble “Home Based Businesses” for someone in/with my situation and condition, please let me know where they are so I can do more than just sit at home. It has some great information which I personally plan to followup.
The rest of the search results were mostly useless, I have a feeling you know what I mean by this. If you follow any of these links they all want to charge a fee for the same information that is out there for free.
If you do find some sites or situations that you are interested in: use caution before committing to any “job” that is going to pay you as a contractor. This is particularly true if you recieve benefits under “Social Security” since they have limits on what you may earn.
