Good ideas for getting the word out about my “home based cleaning business?”?
I’ve started my own cleaning service and I’m having a hard time getting the word out about it. I’ve printed up tons of flyers and have walked around my neighborhood putting them on doors (since its illegal to put anything in mailboxes), and I’m still not getting calls. Any quick, inexpensive ideas?
Simply post it in public free spaces…. Make a flyer.. If you have Microsoft go to Microsoft.com and under “templates” there’s tons of free downloads pick one and customize it to your needs… Then print/make copies and post… Library, grocery stores, retirement centers, rec. centers. Board of Education… Local newspapers.. They may charge a small fee but, they reach many people… There’s also craigslist.. It’s free and most people know about it.. Just be careful as with anything involving strangers ! Let friends/family know. Especially, with increased cleaning and the holidays coming up offer to help your friends and family for a small “fee” maybe do a couple rooms to help them with the holiday entertaining.. Check the local schools PTA moms/dads. Local churches/community centers… Those are all good places to start… Good luck

“1 Home Based Business”
maybe in the wrong section but business advice?
Please don’t criticize , im just looking for a little guidance.
I am 5 1/2 months pregnant and had to quit my job because it was too stressful (it was basically a form of law enforcement in a nutshell). I was looking at starting a home-based “business” with my kind of skills (which i will list) as just a way to make a little extra cash, without spending a fortune to start a business. First, I am looking for something like that doesn’t require me to hire anyone right now, doesn’t require having to pay taxes for a small business, and no, i DO NOT want to take online surveys.
I can sew, do very limited things with embroidery, I can paint but really don’t have the patience. I have an Associates of Art in Studio Art degree.
I was thinking about finding something I could sell for a small startup fee? Any help? Thank you!!!!
Would you give writing a try?
Embroidery, crafts and arts … huge market I would say for people
a) looking for inspiration
b) trying to learn craft/art etc
c) interested in buying embroidery/craft/art supplies
think about, is there an item that you would love to get your hands on but haven’t been able to locate it? this can lead to a product to sell.
The other avenue is writing about these things. There are a number of online article publishing networks where you can set up accounts and receive an income through writing. If its something people want to know about and its not well covered online (keywords with high hits but little competition) then you will get traffic to your site. If you find your good at the writing, you could turn it into an ebook.

“1 Home Business”
As blacks, are we expected to give eachother business?
I just got my pre-approval (Yay!!!) and now it’s time to start looking for houses. Well, my mother gave our number to her real estate agent and praised him to no end. But, when I spoke with him, he sounded laxed, stuttered and just didn’t sound aggressive enough, plus it’s been weeks and I haven’t heard anything from him at all. So, my mortgage lender gave me a contact of hers whom she told me would definitely get us in a home before 12/1 and who would make it so that all we would have to come to the table with would be our down payment.
I told my mom about our pre-approval and she asked me if I called her guy. I told her that we were going to go with someone else a big more aggressive and knowledgable. She said, “C’mon, give the brutha some business.”
Your thoughts?
Lex-OK now I feel bad…
I agree.
Part of the reason why Blacks dont advance is because we dont help each other be more enterprising. Look at the Jews, Indians, and Asians. They hire each other before they hire outsiders. They enfranchise each other before they give their money to people who dont live in their community. They collectively help each other rise to an acceptable standard rather than moving forward and leaving their bruddas and sistas behind. There’s a reason why ghettos are so economically depressed, there’s hardly any buisnesses and the buisnesses that ARE there are owned by people who dont live there, so the money is always leavin the community rather than goin back in.
I’d give him a second chance but if he keeps slackin then I would move on. Advancement of the race is one ting, but I aint gonna waste time with you just cuz you black. Time aint free and money is hard to come by. Thats annotha problem our people have, some of us is just lazy and blow opportunities.
LOL! I aint tryin to make u feel bad….im just tellin you how it is. My point is, at least he got a profession, so I’d help him at least get a lil bit ahead and give him the benefit of the doubt at least once. But if he still f*ckin up he’s outta here.
And i know i’m gonna get a billion thumbs down for my views but the hypocritical part of it is that EVERY other group that came to america did well by banding together and working together, so they have no valid right to call me racist for wanting to give my money to a Black man before i let it leave the community and end up in the taxes of some rich suburban people.
Jimmy Wang Dick dont know what the r@ss him a talk bout…
Almost every ethnic group who came here got outta the hole through cooperative economics. The Irish became cops and passed the jobs down to their sons and the new immigrants from the old country. They got benefits, they made money, they hired each other and eventually they got out of the hole. Yea, some of em got rich and some didnt, but thats capitalism. Some will get rich and some wont. But regardless they still looked out for each other.
Jews & Indians are largely the same ting. Look who works in all the Indian shops and Jewish buisnesses? People of like ethnicity. He’s talkin outta his @ss.
Im not sayin discriminate completely but invest in your own community. Jimmy is just usin the old ignorant tactic of divide and conquer in order to spread dissent and feed his own sh*t filled ego. For the record, I’m no élite Black either, i’m a 20 year old college student who makes 400$ a month.
My Voice on the Net raises a real good point too. You do gotta balance between helpin your community and doing for yourself and watching your own interests.

“a Mlm Business”
Is MLM/Network Marketing for people who are not entrepreneurial for actual business startups?
It always seems like the people promoting MLM are either the bottom of the ladder in terms of entrepreneurial people or are totally kidding themselves.
You can’t ask an MLMer about due diligence or market projections without having them tell you are complicating the issue…do these people even realize how ridiculous it is calling what they are doing a “business”. Essentially, you have these people sign up as reps (with some other company mind you) and never sell enough product on their own to make any money. Then they pull out these one liners their upline told them to justify what they are doing.
Saying MLM is another means of marketing is like saying selling toothpicks is another means of making money…well maybe, but you have to be a moron to go that route.
Will any MLMer actually answer this without slandering me for talking negatively about their “business”?
ill to you too why are you so mad not good for ya learn to kick back alittle week end off should be in your future working to hard kills people .

“at Home Business”
Tax question: My personal business is only a name?
I am a full-time employee of a company, but I also started my own business in 2007. At this point, I have done nothing with the business other than file the “Doing Business As” (DBA) paperwork in my town (in MA). I have generated no business and, therefore, have no assets, liabilities, etc. What are my requirements for filing taxes, both federal and state? I’d like to use TurboTax, but don’t know if I need the “Deluxe” or “Home & Business” version.
Thanks for your help!
You don’t need to have a special “business name” unless you want to.
Any income you made on the side goes on Schedule C. And expenses associated with that business are deducted there.
If you had start-up expenses, but no income yet, you can still deduct your expenses in 2007. If they were substantial, you may have to carry some of them forward to 2008. BUT – you can’t use expenses paid in 2007 on your 2008 tax return. So if you did have expenses, go ahead and report them on your Schedule C for 2007, even if you don’t show a profit.
Home & Business or Deluxe should both have Schedule C & Se and all that you;d need as a self-employed person.
