Is Buying MLM Genealogy Leads A Smart Use Of Your Money?

If you’re looking to build your network marketing business fast, you need a steady supply of leads, as well as an effective marketing system to expose your contacts to your list.

Of the different ways of promoting your business, one of the most popular ways is purchasing lists of distributors in various companies called ‘genealogy leads’. I am going to briefly discuss this phenomenon, and talk about the positives and negatives, as well as discuss moral and ethical issues that arise because of it.

Before we get into too much detail, though, we’re going to spend just a minute discussing what a Network Marketing genealogy lead is. Basically various Network Marketing companies sell the personal information of distributors in their networks after they go out of business – to whoever will buy them. After they sell it, the buyers usually market to the list, as well as market it online to whoever will pay. You can even occasionally buy lists of distributors who are active in their current company, believe it or not. These lists are obtained without consent from the distributors who are on them, often times in an unethical, illegal manner, from hacking into the company database, to a disenchanted employee selling names online – it is all the same.

If you want to build a business with integrity, it is unethical to purchase genealogy leads – how can you pretend you’re conducting honest business when you’re breaking SPAM laws and FTC regulations? Most people you call off of these lists are completely irritated by your phone calls – and they should be – did they request your phone call? If you are nervous about calling them and decide to engage in sending unsolicited emails, then you can be in trouble from various State and Federal government agencies, including the FTC. I would just say that this is not the smartest way to market your business.

Plus, who would want to be on the phone all day, calling irritated and disenchanted distributors who don’t want to hear from them in the first place? However, you may be the kind of person who doesn’t care and can handle being told ‘get me off of your list’ over and over again. You might want to scrub the list against the ‘DO NOT CALL’ database, as well if you don’t want to pay the government any hefty fines.

So why is it that people persist in buying these lists if they are such a poor business strategy?

We’ve already talked about how most distributors in the MLM business simply don’t have the kind of contacts to really be successful. My view is that instead of putting the work that’s required to create these leads in an ethical way, they look for a ‘quick fix’ solution. So in their persistence to find the ‘silver bullet’ they run into one of the hundreds of websites selling ill gotten genealogy leads and drop a few hundred bucks hoping to profit quick.

It eventually becomes clear that buying leads was a silly idea – only, however, after several thousand hours of hearing ‘don’t ever call me again’ on the other line.

are women looking for “bad boys” or honest, real guys?

I have been single about a year, dated one person in between, but its not going anywhere. Decided to venture out and try to meet new people, on-line. So I have contacts with a few very attractive women, and they seem interested, but the issue is what they say they are looking for (honest, mature, real, not money, not looks, etc) seems like a lie to me. I am honest, real, a job and am fun (I believe) to be around, and even if the conversation goes great it never seems to lead to a dates. I am no Brad Pitt (or insert your version of some stud-muffin here), but I think I am good enough to deserve the love of a good, attractive, person. So question is, what am I doing wrong, or are the “wish lists” the ladies put up reality, or are they looking for the bad boys.
